Farnworth

Within Greater Manchester's Bolton Metropolitan Borough, Farnworth is an area that is unparished and a town. In Lancashire, on the River Irwell and the River Croal lies Farnworth. Recorded as Farnewrth in 1279 and Farneworth in 1278 and Ffornword in a survey of 1282 was Farnworth.

Part of the Bolton South East constituency, the constituency of Farnworth continued in 1983 until it was abolished. Farnworth measures from east to west about two miles, and with a 1,502 acre area (one mile) from north to south towards the north-east on land sloping by the River Croal which forms the boundary. Dixon Green and New Bury include districts in Farnworth.

However two of 20 wards of Bolton Council the town comprises: the ward of Harper Green and the Farnworth ward, there are no figures for the unparished Farnworth. Close to the centre, the largest is Farnworth Park has undergone redevelopment as part of Bolton Council's Children's Strategy. When Bolton's Bolton Royal Infirmary in the early 1990s closed and moved to Farnworth, an Emergency Department was added.

Served by Northern, who operate services on Manchester to Preston Line, are Farnworth and Moses Gate railway stations. Primary schools and secondary schools include schools that Farnworth has. With training for winter taking place at the School of Harper Green, Farnworth F.C. is a youth football that plays its games at Darley Park.

Established in 1948, Farnworth Little Theatre is an amateur theatre group and is on Cross Street. On Brackley Street, the first is the Leisure Centre of Farnworth with a pool for swimming. In Farnworth, the AD of Manchester has active places of worship.

Contributing to the mechanisation of papermaking, T. B. Crompton, the Farnworth Paper mills owner, patented a process for continuous-drying. By combining figures of the Farnworth ward (15,793), it was increased to 30,271 at the United Kingdom Census 2011, which covers the eastern half of the town, and the Harper Green ward (14,478), which covers the west side. Founded in 1870, Farnworth Cricket Club plays its games at Bridgeman Park.
